Evening Voice Workshops with Helena Walsh Feb, March, April, May at 4 North Great George's Street, The Expressive Voice February 2nd to 5th April Thursday evenings 7 to 9pm Ten Week Course - €200
Using Feldenkraise and Linklater techniques this class will suit those looking for a solid foundation in good vocal technique. At the end of each session you will be given a recording of exercises to go home and practice that week. Over the ten weeks you will learn about the tools needed to have a freer and more expressive voice; tools such as spinal awareness, breathing techniques, freeing muscular tension, freeing the channels through which sound flows by releasing the tongue, lips, jaw, soft palate and throat. These classes will make you aware of where you hold tension and how to release it, give you a sense of how to centre and root your voice so it becomes more expressive and alive. ________________________________ The Resonating Ladder February 7th to 28th Tuesday 7 to 9pm Finding Resonance. Developing and Strengthening Resonators 4 sessions - €80 _________________________________ Song & Text 6th March to 3rd April Tuesday Evenings 7 to 9pm 5 sessions - €100 A capella Singing {Croatian, Bulgarian, Corsican etc folk songs} Voice and Movement. Choral Work. Inspired by Roy Hart Techniques. Ensemble work. These classes are for singers or actors who would like to explore their sung and spoken voice in a more physically heightened way. These classes will be physical and use heightened physical gestures to inhabit both sung and spoken text. We will play with moving from the sung to the spoken word through a choral piece in which we will take the text apart and put it back together using a palate of sung and voiced expression created by the group dynamic. The first part of the class will be spent on warm up and a cappella songs, the second half on the choral piece.

Saturday 21st April 10.00 – 17.00 Sunday 22nd April 11.00 - 1800 & Saturday 5th May 10.00 – 17.00 Sunday 6th May 11.00 - 1800
City Centre Location Learning to work with our whole body and mind together
produces work of depth, colour and great sensitivity. We will focus on wakening
ourselves up physically and mentally, sensitising ourselves with others and
then connecting to text and to playful situations. The first part of each session will focus on physical
and vocal technique that will open up the body and voice, grounding the actor
and preparing for improvisational ensemble work in the afternoon. Techniques
are inspired from Feldenkrais, Astanga yoga, Lecoq and Roy Hart. The second part of each session will be spent on
understanding acting through choral voice and sung pieces and through active
imaginative play and work on text. Songs will be used to encourage a greater
range of expression in the spoken voice and choral pieces will be sung and
spoken. The emphasis will be on the physicalisation of song and the word. We
will learn to embody the gesture of a phrase, or ground the feeling of a word
through clear energised thought and a dynamic articulate and expressive body.
This is taken through to the acting with text and improvisation work allowing
physical action to take us into the discovery of situation and meaning. This is a course that is suitable for anyone with some
acting experience. Having a trained singing voice is not necessary and the
course is designed for actors who would like to explore moving freely from
spoken to sung text . The work is challenging but always fun.
